Thank you everyone for such a great year in 2008!

LalaTroop and I would like to give thanks to those who have joined this group and to those who have been so supportive this year in our clothing line. It has been a very busy year but we are excited to meet new friends along the way.

The troopians and I will be taking a short break for the winter. Commissions are closed until January 8th, 2009.

All purchased orders made on Etsy after Dec. 27th, 2008 will be shipped out on Jan. 6th, 2009.

We will also start to carry Latidoll yellow SP size clothing items in 2009.

As for the status of the commissions that I am working on and are finishing:

Beth's group order - Everyone in this group their items are done except for Beth's friend. I will be working on that order during my short break. I am expecting to send out the package before January 6th.

Elissa's group order - I will be working on first part of this order but most of the items will be finished between Jan. 6th-10th, 2009.

Thank you all again for those who have posted their cute pictures with LalaTroop clothes. They do bring smiles on our faces each time we see them.

Have a safe and happy holidays everyone!

Love,
Peggy+Redbutt Monkey and LalaTroop

A day out for the vampires

I think the last time I went out to watch a movie was ‘Wall-E’, which may not sound so bad compare to some people, I guess. It just felt like ages since I have been out and enjoy a bit of entertainment.

We decided to take my dad to go watch 007 since he is a big fan. He may not speak English or understand English too well but action movies and cool weapon gadgets are universal language. My dad has the habit of crossing his arms in front of his chest when he is concentration or focus on something. He was in that same position throughout the movie.

Hubby and I thought this latest James Bond movie was actually quite decent! Lots of actions from beginning to the end and the plot was good too. I thought my dad would have liked it but the first thing he said to me after they turned up the light and we started to walk out of the theater was ‘I think James Bond movies are getting worse and worse...I did not see a single new weapon or gadgets in this one!’ Sigh. Oh dad...oh dear old dad.

Busy holiday season

Goodness..it has been such a long time since I had the time to update my blog here. I think I can see some cyber spider webs around this place *brushes them off*.

So, how is everyone’s holiday month going so far? Busy shopping for gifts?

I have been wanting to write here since the end of last month but just hadn’t find the time to do so. Besides trying to adjust back to normal sleep hours, I have been busy working on commissions and updating on Etsy. I am happy to know people like my dolly clothes and I have met some new friends just in the last month.

I had cut my hair short since the last time I was here. It feels so good to not have to wash, brush and carry around the weight of long hair. Long hair is good if you have the time to take good care of it and make it smooth, shinny and healthy. For me, sometimes I even forgot to brush my hair before I head out the door...needless to say about hair treatment or hair care.

In case I don’t get a chance later on to say this...I wish all a happy and safe holiday!

Turkey Day

Sorry it has been such a long time since I last updated my blog.

I have been so busy with making Christmas outfits for dolls and updating them on Etsy (besides commissions for non-Christmas items) that I seriously do not find enough hours in a day to do everything I want. My hours are also messed up as well...I find myself going to bed around 6am, then 8am and lately 10am. I pretty much live in Asia time zone now even though I am in the US.

Today was Thanksgiving and now come to think of it, it was the first day in many months I hadn’t sew a thing for the whole day. My parents invited some friends and us over for dinner and we stayed over until 3am so by the time we drove home, it was closed to 4am in the morning. They said turkey makes you sleepy...I think it’s true. I would think I slept enough the day before but actually I was quite beaten up when we got home. I wanted to at least sew a bit but I think I will give it a rest and pick up sewing tomorrow.

The night before Thanksgiving it was raining the whole night. I am not much of a rain person..I like sunny blue sky weather with slight breeze. Listening to the rain wasn’t so bad though..it actually soothed me down as I sew throughout the night into the early morning. I did wanted to dress up my doll to take a picture after the rain when the sun started to shine..it’s not often we see our grounds wet here.

I hope everything who did celebrate Thanksgiving had a wonderful day with their family and friends.

Snowman hitting LaLaTroop!

Whew, what a busy week I had last week with making new Christmas items for Latidoll yellows using reindeer theme and also working on commission work at the same time. I am happy to say I finished some commissions and was able to make most of what I had wanted for the reindeer ideas. Thank you everyone for their sweet comments and to those who adopted them.

I am running a bit behind because well, my own birthday got in the way..hehe. So..there will still be few items up of reindeer with new reindeer fabrics and at the same time, the introduction of Mr. Snowman. He will start to appear on LaLaTroop’s etsy shop in few more hours (as in when I wake up after my sleep).

For the snowman, I will have two different fur materials for the hat. One furry and fluffy, one soft but short in length. There will be rompers and boots as well in snowman theme so hopefully people will like him as much as they like Mr. Reindeer.

In the previous blog, I mentioned more or less the timeline of these upcoming Christmas characters. The dates will be delayed a bit and look something more along the line like this for now:

From Nov.3-13th: Reindeer is the main character. There will be reindeer rompers, hats and scarfs.

From Nov. 11th-21th: Snowman is the main character. There will be snowman rompers, hats and scarfs.

From Nov. 21th-28nd: Elves are the main characters. Hats and rompers will be featured.

From Nov. 27-Dec.4th: Santa is the main character. I haven’t had much ideas down for him yet so we will see how it goes.

The big 3

November 9th has just started about an hour which means I am now officially 30 years old *sigh*.

While I was busy depressing over the big ‘3’, hubby was blending something in the kitchen with his ear plugs on because he said the noises the blender makes were too loud. Ok, whatever...as long as he is happy. I was still finishing some stitching here and there when he came into our work room and placed down next to me a cup of vegetable juice he just made. I looked up at him and said ‘Hm, this is my first birthday gift?’ His reply was ‘Yes, to good health...and now that you are 30, we need to take even more care’. I don’t know whether to laugh or just to slap him. I guess it does show he care.

Few minutes later he turned his head from his work station to look over my side and noticed that my vegetable juice cup were half empty. He said to me ‘wow, very good! I see that you drank your juice’..my reply to him was ‘so can I have my burger and fries now?’

Reindeer is here!

This week has just started and already I am packed with ideas for Christmas dolly clothes. Like I mentioned in the previous blog, this week I will start making reindeer related items. Most of them are for Latidoll yellow size but I am hoping once I have bit more time I can sew for bigger dolls during December. To me, these Latidoll yellows remind me of little baby girls and boys that just fit cute and adorable fabric prints more.

If I do not reply to messages as fast as I used to, I apologize as I am trying to finish as much as I can each day on my sewing. I am currently working on commissions and preparing for the Christmas items at the same time. If I tend to forget to reply to some of you, please do remind me again. The new flickr system is taking me some time to get used to. I am someone that does not like changes and find it a bit hard to adapt. I will always try and do my best in making the cutest clothes that my little brain and two hands can take.

Christmas may not be here yet..

Although Christmas is still a month or more away, LaLaTroop is getting ready for the holiday~

Starting this week, there will be Christmas outfits listing on my Etsy. I might not be able to make as much as I like, due to limited materials and few commissions on hands, but I will try my best. Each week there will be a different theme/character that is featured. As we get closer to Christmas, if I still have enough materials left, I will list a mixture of these characters.

This is more or less the guideline that I am trying to follow for now:

From Nov.3-9th: Reindeer is the main character. There will be reindeer rompers, hats and scarfs.

From Nov. 10th-16th: Snowman is the main character. There will be snowman rompers, hats and scarfs.

From Nov. 17th-22nd: Elves are the main characters. Hats and rompers will be featured.

From Nov. 23-30th: Santa is the main character. I haven’t had much ideas down for him yet so we will see how it goes.

Knock, knock..trick or treat?!

On Oct. 31st, I know it was the day of Halloween but what I didn’t know was my two Latidoll rabbits were hopping their way over to knock on my door. How perfect can this be?! Latidoll dressed as rabbits arriving on Halloween’s day!

When I saw that Latidoll shipped my order around Oct. 29th, I wasn’t expecting the package at least until Nov. 1st as EMS usually takes about 3 days from Korea to reach to where I am. I have to say this time the shipping impressed me. When I checked online for the shipment status and saw it was already at my local post office for delivery, I was quite shocked and sad because I had to go out later that day and thought I would again missed the mail man. But luck has it that as hubby and I were sitting down in the car about to drive out, the delivery truck came pulling in. Of course when I saw that fabulous white truck, I yelled out ‘My rabbits are here!’ Hubby just let out a sigh and nodded his head .. so I quickly swung open the car door and jumped out to where the delivery truck was parked. The lady that was delivery the truck saw me running toward her so she pointed to the package and mouthed out the word ‘Yours?’. I nodded and she opened up her door to have me sign for them. Yay!!! Happy day indeed!

I couldn’t decide who I like better..rabbit miel or rabbit lami so I ordered both. My lami, however, came with a lumi certificate and although my miel is fine with hers, she came with wonky eyes...one pupil larger than the other. The doll themselves at least are well made and painted so that was good. With Lati, it is always the love-hate relationship.

The cold weather is coming

Lately I’ve noticed the weather is getting bit colder and more windy outside. There are a lot of fallen leaves landing on top of the grass fields in our community. I guess it is a good sign that season is changing and we no longer have long hot sunny days.

It’s weird because I am not the type of person who likes rain but I also don’t like hot humid summer days when I constantly feel like I need to take showers. A perfect day would be a bit of warmth from the sun yet with clear fresh light breeze~

Am I brushing my teeth the wrong way or...

Sometimes I wonder if I am brushing my teeth the wrong way or maybe hubby is brushing his just a bit too hard?!

We always start out with the same brand new toothbrushes at the same time yet as days go by, I noticed his look different than mine. Usually by the end of one or two months, his toothbrush would be in the form of explosive bristles while mine look pretty much the same as the day I opened it. Am I brushing my teeth too light or not clean enough? Or is he brushing them too hard? Things that make one go hmmm...

What happens when men also care about their skin..

Sigh. Where do I begin? One would think that most men don’t pay much attention to skin care or skin care products like women do. Well, I was wrong...at least when it comes to my husband that is.

I don’t know about others but I am pretty certain most skin care products are expensive. One tiny bottle of 0.5 oz of eye cream can cost up to USD$30 if not more and skin/facial cream are far worse. Because of this, I usually use only fingertip amount each time for my whole face and a 0.5 oz bottle can last me 3 good months...that is until it met hubby.

After we got married, hubby noticed after I washed my face I would apply eye cream and facial cream every morning and each night before going to bed. He wants his skin to be soft and moist too so he started to use my skin products. What made me yelp and faint is that each time he uses them, he would dip 2-3 big scoops and apply all over his face and neck area. All my care of using as little amount as I can becomes pointless. A bottle that can last me 3 months can now only last one. I told him many times to be gentle and don’t use so much and his reply was ‘But I am high maintenance...I need to be beautiful at all times’. Ok....but you can still be beautiful with just one scoop right? No need for 2 or 3 BIG ones. Sigh...

The picture below where you can see those finger prints and finger scoops/wipes, yup, his.

The joy of trading

I know I mentioned this several times already but I love to do trade with other talented dolly people! I am really lucky to have met so many friendly dolly friends who asked me to do trade with them and happy to know they like my work enough to do so. Thank you lovely people!

New addiction..(yes, still doll)

It is shocking but I just realized chatting with dolly friends isn’t always beneficial. Why? Because dolly friends often can introduce you to new types of dolls or dolls you usually don’t have interest in but once you keep seeing pictures of, eventually the interest sinks in.

I was talking to a dolly friend of mine from Taiwan and she showed me links of some Susie sad eyes doll on auctions. I saw them before on flickr and other dolly forums but didn’t think much of them. To be honest, I find them a bit scary...I also found Blythe to be scary when I bought my first one and few years down the road, I gathered a troop of Blythe. So who am I to judge? I decided to give this new girl a try...I bided on one which ended in a rather low amount but of course I wasn’t there to bid in the last minute. The one I lost out on had a sandy blonde hair which I am ok with but was thinking already of having a black hair one. Sooo.....when I saw a black hair susie (at BIN price at almost 4x the amount of the one I lost out on), I clicked and won.

I am excited to meet her and see how I like her....hopefully this will be a beginning of a lovely relationship~

The picture below was not taken by me. It was from ebay auction.

Happing findings~

I was in the fabric store the other day and happened to walk past their Halloween section. I saw some cute props and door decorations for Halloween among other little things here and there. After 10 minutes of internal struggles, I decided not to buy anything and just move on. Just as I was about to leave that area, I saw that they have this bat shaped labels with the words ‘trick or treat’ on them. Darn! i was so close to leave without buying anything!! I thought those labels would fit well with packages I am sending out and the rack only had the last pack in stock..so I guess it was meant to be?

I hope those that receive them will enjoy these little decorations as much as I do~

Trick or treat bags for dolls

Finally the weekend was over and we are starting a new week. I have been busing making dinner plans and whatnot over the weekend which left me little time to sew or to plan for new items.

Since Halloween is getting near, I will be making some trick or treat bags for Latidoll yellows. There will be few different designs but I am not sure how many I will put up this week as I will be mainly focus on commissions again. I plan to make these bags this week and maybe throughout the middle of next week and stop (as I do not want to make it too close to Halloween..this is to be sure I can ship before Halloween comes).

You can either purchase one of these bags from my etsy store or when you spend USD$37 (exclude shipping fee) or more on my etsy store (starting Oct. 6th-Oct.17th), a free one will be included.

So many things..so little time

I am sure most of us feel this way. If you are not one of them then consider yourself lucky.

I have so many things on my list of to do (and believe me I am doing them) but there just doesn’t seem to be enough time left in a day for me to complete all the tasks. With my commissions for dolly clothes..sometimes it’s low time (meaning 1-2 orders and each order has only 1-2 items) but sometimes it’s big orders all come in around the same time. Right now I have about 3 commissions on hand to finish. I am hoping to finish 1-2 at least by the end of this weekend.

Hubby invited some friends over this weekend for dinner but at the time he was thinking he will be the one cooking but our friends thought it was going to be me. They are excited because they have never ever tried my cooking. Not to mention I never touch kitchenwares before marrige. I rarely cooked for others so I guess cooking for our friends once shouldn’t be so bad. I will help hubby (assuming he won’t ditched me that is) with 1-2 dishes.

I so need a robot to help me finish everything on my to-do list.

It's so good to be in the dolly world..

because I get to meet and know many great people (in real life as well as internet). I don’t know how long my love and passion for dolls will last but I sure don’t see them ending anytime soon. Collecting and appreciating these dolls are just tiny part of this hobby. Learning to make dolly clothes, meeting new dolly friends, keeping in touch with old dolly friends, sharing pictures of each others dolls are all what this hobby has brought me.

I am really grateful to know about Blythe, about BJDs and also people who shared this same interest as me. Big hug and kiss to all.

My bio clock is soooo upside down..

To be honest, I don’t even know what time zone my body is living in.

Hubby and I go to bed around 5-6am in the morning, wake up around 1-2pm in the afternoon (which means yes, we skipped breakfast) and usually have our first meal around 3-4pm. The first thing I would do after waking up is to take photos of the dolly clothes I made the night before and post them on flickr. I must say I love taking pictures of my dolls modeling my handmade clothes as much as I love making them because sometimes they create their own poses. Their legs would bend and pose by themselves at times and in pretty cute poses too! The next part after photo shooting is uploading on flickr and etsy.

Now..the writing description part on etsy isn’t my favorite because my brain is still half asleep at this point so having to type out paragraphs and paragraphs just isn’t as thrilling. I felt like a zombie or a bored secretary putting on the auto mode and just type away. After uploading them on etsy...my mind goes blank. What I meant by this is I would just sit in front of the computer and do nothing. I think this might be caused by the lack of food intakes...no food, no blood in the brain and rest of the body. Usually I would either pick the following choices:

A) Go get lunch/post office and then start sewing/working around 6pm
B) Wait until everyone’s dinner time (for normal people) and have our first meal and then start sewing around 8pm

I usually go with choice A as I can’t last too long without food. I forgot when was the last time I just rest in bed and do nothing the whole day. I can’t even find my gameboy or xbox games anymore.

Halloween is coming..

Here we are in the month of October already..and before you know it, those trick or treaters will be knocking at you door (unless you are not in the mood to celebrate and choose to close your house lights or ignore the doorbells).

I will be sewing and updating my Etsy shop with various Halloween colors/theme dresses for Latidoll yellow during this week and probably early next week. Hope you guys like them~

Social life is cathing up to me

Last weekend, like most weekends, I thought I would be sewing most of the day but before I knew it, Saturday was taken up by spending it with my sister and Sunday by my long time best friend. I must admit I had a great time eating and talking about what has been happening lately. I figured I can catch up with sewing either later this week or this weekend.....somehow I think this weekend I am also booked as well.

My mom wanted my sister to bring me some homemade food tomorrow so I will most likely be spending the day with her again but at our place instead of outdoors (last weekend we went shopping which means this weekend our wallets are tight). I think later on in the night our friends will also join us at our place.

I am trying to get some sewing done tonight to put on Etsy. I don’t know how much I will accomplish this weekend but I will try my best~

And yes, the picture below is how I sew on each snap for Latidoll clothes...most of the time these poor little models are afraid of having their little butts poked by the needles. Sorry little ones but we all need to work hard >____<~~~

Sometimes a waste of time may not be a totally waste..

I was planning on finishing a current commission this afternoon but hubby suddenly got a call from a 3D printing company for a quick demo session and the guy only had this afternoon for free. So, he wanted me to go along to check out some of the latest 3D printers that are available. I figured the demo shouldn’t take more than half an hour so I went along but nope, it was more like 3-4 hours.

Besides making 3D sculptural objects, this company also makes 2D text prints on shirts. To show customer their samples during convention times, they printed their different texts and textures of the texts on small tees. I noticed underneath this work table there was a pile of these small sample tees. I took and few look and realized they are perfect size for my SD size BJDs! I was thrilled but wasn’t sure if I should ask to see if I can have one. The demo guy saw that I was looking at those shirts (he should since I looked and was flipping through them 3-4 times) and told me how they printed it. I finally decided to ask if I can have one for my dolls that I collect and he said sure! I wish I could have gotten more but I am happy that he let me have one.

Here is a picture of Nolan modeling the shirt.

Another unexpected dolly pregnancy

Like the title said, it really was an unexpected purchase. If any, I am looking and needing a red hair kenner with fringe but the prices for them are beyond my price range.

I was browsing ebay and looking at custom blythes to admire and then decided to check out some kenners while I am at it. That was when I saw Alley (the kenner pictured below) being listed among other what appeared to be used and abused kenners. From the seller’s pictures (first picture below), she does not look like she has any fringe at all although someone posted a question asking the seller about fringe. The seller said the doll does have fringe but when I looked at the price, I was thinking in my head..maybe it if was $100 lower than I might go for her. I just left the page up while I continue to do my daily sewing and flickr browsing.

After 20-30 minutes, I remembered I left the auction page for Alley up so I went back just to take one last look when I noticed that the seller had lowered the price $100 less! Maybe the seller heard my thought through the cyber world?! Either way, I just could not resist any longer and click the BIN button on ebay.

That same day, I was supposed to go shopping with my sister because I was a new woman (new woman being my credit card cycle has refresh for the next month). I told her since I promised to go shopping with her I will still go but I can’t buy anything because of this new purchase. Of course she thought I was nuts for paying the price I paid for some old dirty plastics. She doesn’t understand why do I buy these old ugly looking dolls and then need to spend time to clean and brush them up, especially for the prices they are selling for. She said for those prices, they should come brand new in boxes. Ha! I wish.

Well, after battling about 3.5-4 hours with her hair and clean a bit of her face and body, I managed to bring out those hidden fringe and straightened out some locks on the back of her hair. I think I still need many more hours on those frizzy hair from the middle part to the end and little touch up on her face. Most of my kenner girls are in their ‘natural’ state..meaning I only wash their hair, combed and let dry. Some still have bit of frizz on their hair but I just let them be. I think Alley might just be the one that required the most amount of work.

What's happening for this weekend..

Well, today I went shopping with my sister since she offered to pick me up at my place and treat me to milk tea. By doing so, she is making it almost impossible to turn down her offer to go shopping with her. As usual, I did not buy anything for myself but decided to find some fabrics to make clothes for the dolls. I was so thrilled to be able to find many of the ones I like! I guess this weekend will be happy sewing weekend! Yay!

How I miss my mom's cooking..

I did not realized I was living in heaven before marriage when my mom used to cook for me. Now that I am married and have to cook for myself and my husband, I sometime wonder why o why do humans need to eat three times a day. It takes so much time away....2 hours of preparing and cooking and all gone in less than 10 minutes (yes, I am a fast eater and don’t chew often).

I still go visit my family once a week if possible and sometimes when I am lucky, my mom will prepare me some food to bring back. Oh the joy! When she said she has steamed a chicken for me, the level of happiness is almost the same as buying a doll that I have wanted or going to Disneyland (yes, I do like to go to Disneyland..not necessary for the rides but for the toys!).

This time she prepared some rice noodles and drunken chicken soup for me to take home. Yum, yum, yum is all I can say. Oh mom..how I miss our arguments and your super delicious food! >___<~~~

New materials..

I’ve found some new materials which I am not too certain about. I do love the look of it (kinda like for raincoats) but not sure if what I have in mind will translate well into sewing.

I will see if I can make a raincoat and a pair of matching pants with it first.

Late..or shall I say early dinner?

Yes, it is 12:30am and I am just about to have my dinner.

Eating late is not the only part that is bad but it is what I am having that adds to the bad. In this lovely land called America and also where I live, the only food stores that open late are fast food which translate to burgers and fries. Yup! Burger is what I am about to eat and have for dinner. I did not want to feel so bad about having burger for dinner therefore I walked on treadmills for about 20 minutes before I went to get my burger. Ok, ok..I know walking for 20 minutes is nothing but hey, it’s saturday. I earned the right to be lazy and eat guilty food....in bed. I need a little break and so does my soul. My body mass can wait for me to accept the punishment later.

First..probably last dolly family picture of my Latidoll

I find myself tending to like to take picture of each individual doll by himself or herself rather than group shot for several reasons. First of all, just the thought of taking all of them out, dressing them up, placing them for the photo shoot is enough to tired me out. The other reason is I am not good at all with group shots and I can’t capture each doll’s personality at all this way.

Well, today the weather was nice and cool and I decided to take a little break from sewing in the afternoon and have few quick pictures of my current Latidoll yellow 16cm dolls. You can see more of them on my flickr but I picked the one below because it’s my favorite shot from the batch.

Addiction truly has no end. That is all I can say.

What's your daily poison?

Mine is iced cold milk tea.

I used to think it was iced cold black tea because my stomach doesn’t work too well with milk related products. I tend to get upset stomach if I eat or drink something made with milk. For some strange reason though, milk tea is ok and I don’t get upset stomach...or maybe they don’t use real milk?!

Hubby and I know they are not good for you but we just can’t help ourselves. We NEED to have one a day if not every other day. We also used to get milk tea with tapioca or boba but lately the tea place we go they changed the brand of the tapioca/boba (yes, we are so addicted to the point of being experts and can tell when the taste is different or off) and they make the milk tea taste too sweet with a bit of strange after taste. I can tolerate it but hubby can’t. So sometimes I ordered mine with tapioca/boba when I feel like being bad or had a long day but hubby just likes his with plain milk tea with nothing else added. We joke around saying with our daily donations to the milk tea place, we can probably put the tea store owner’s daughter through college at this pace.

Ah..the little pleasures of life. So what’s your poison?

A little gift for my dolls..

I think it has become a habit of mine to buy a little something each time I travel for my dolls, especially the ones that couldn’t make it with me on the trip and had to stay home. I lost count of the number of times my sister or hubby would tell me to stop buying little toys for my dolls because our house is becoming like a toy/junk yard. I just couldn’t help it when I see something cute and something I think my doll or dolls will look so cute with it.

This time for the Las Vegas trip, I picked up a little donkey for Ru in one of the souvenir shops. I don’t know what donkey has to do with Vegas though. The poor donkey has a sticker price stuck on his under belly so when I peeled it off, he got a little bald spot. Its ok Mr. Donkey, we will take good care of you.

Why we love to trade..

Sometimes I get messages from other talented dolly people asking if I am interested to trade some dolly clothes with them. I really do love to do trades with others around the world with different talents (for example, knitting or crocheting which I can’t do). Heck, even if they sew and not knit or crochet I still love to trade because I don’t think of myself as perfect in any way when it comes to sewing and I love my dolls wearing others creations.

My husband and sister asked me before why do I buy doll clothes if I can make the same thing or similar? I don’t know if it is the same with other dolly friends but for me I like things that aren’t made by me on my dolls. Is that weird?

The strawberry hat pictured below was from one of the trades. I find it so cute and sweet! I just wish I have more time so I can make more stuff when it comes to trading.

Why do you have it...?

I was asked this question while shopping inside Home Depot today by the cashier. She saw me holding my doll Abby (pictured below) and asked what was I holding in my hands. I then turned Abby around and placed her standing on the cash registered. The girl gave me a questionable look and asked me why do I have it? I think she meant why do I carry that with me. I just replied her why not? I also told her that I collect dolls. Her next reply was ‘oh, cute’.

I don’t know whether she meant it or not but I don’t really care. Come to think of it, I always carry one doll out with me in public and hold it in my hands. To me, they are like a part of an accessories I guess...kind of like a purse you carry with you. I have been doing this so often that it’s normal for me but perhaps strange to others. I love dolls, I live with dolls and I make a living sewing clothes for them. I don’t see why I have be ashamed to show or to carry them around. At least I don’t carry SD size dolls out anymore. I used to carry SD size dolls (60cm tall) out and once to a movie theater. I sat him in the seat next to me before the movie started and needless to say, no one dares to sit next to us (hubby, me and the doll). Our row was empty except for us. The largest size I carry out now is Blythe and the smallest is Latidoll yellow.

When you see little girls carrying their dolls or barbies out in the open one probably would think ‘aw, how cute!’ But I guess when it comes down to a 29 year old woman carrying a doll in her hand out in the open it’s another story.

Dolly clothes..for my dolls

It has been awhile since I last made clothes for my doll crew. I found some apple fabrics which I love and decided to put some away for my dolls. I ended up making a hoody for Latidoll yellow and a long dress for my Domadoll dolls. Since I don’t have pattern for Domadoll, it was more of a guessing game. I am hoping to have more time later on to make more stuff for my dolly crew~~

Once in a blue moon..

It is not often that I would spend money on something for myself. Most of the time, I spend money on dolls, food, milk tea and fabrics. I don’t even buy shoes much or purses since jeans and shirts will do just fine and all I really need is a pair of sandals and tennis shoes.

Today my sister invited me to go shopping with her because she needed to pick out birthday presents for two of her friends. I told her it would have to be after I ran all my errands (going to the post office to ship off packages and fabric shopping) and she said ok. I wasn’t really looking for anything in particular when I went along with her. So when I walked past this section of tee shirts in a department store, I stopped. There is a shirt with a gothic looking girl holding onto many different leashes. The leashes are all tying around different rabbits. I used to have a white rabbit for few years but didn’t take too good care of her so she past away and I was being called the ‘bunny killer’ in my family for awhile. The shirt reminded me of that so I decided to get it. I saw that it is 100% cotton and was afraid it might shrink after few wash so I got one size bigger than my normal size.

I must say I am quite happy with this new shirt!

The two S's..

The two S’s is for sewing and surfing. I don’t know what it is or why it is but I need both at the same time. While I sew, I like to surf on flickr, etsy, ebay and dolly forums. One is like my left arm and the other my right. Yes, I can still manage if I only have one arm but it won’t be as efficient and just doesn’t feel right..if that make any sense.

Who ever it was that invented the internet, I thank you from my heart.

Parts of my work space..

I have to first apologize for the bad light and the mess in the picture below of my work area. I tried to make my work station into what I called as an organized mess most of the time but between cooking, sewing and surfing I realized I just can’t do it all.

These are just some parts of my work spaces...there are other areas where I think they would do damages to the viewer’s eyes and that is one responsibility I can’t take. My grandmother always tells me that a girl’s room should be neat and tidy with nothing around or against the wall. Well, not this little ducky. I did try though...but it’s just not happening. On the bright side, at least I know where all my things are even if they are in messy.

Ice's arrival

I must agree with the old Chinese saying that money can even make the ghost work.

I won a custom blythe doll off ebay just last Saturday or so and I asked the seller if it’s possible for me to receive the doll before Sept 1st (due to some personal affairs I need to have the doll before that time). He said there are two ways and one was using FedEx. The price is higher than normal EMS shipping I am used to paying for dolls and doll related items but they said it can guarantee the doll’s arrival in 2-3 days. Yup, they sure weren’t kidding about the time frame. The seller shipped on Monday (Asia time) and I got the doll on Tuesday morning (US time).

I love the custom dolls created by this artist. I was bidding on the girl before Ice on ebay but the last few minutes my sister came to visit and I completely forgot to place my bids. It turned out to be good for me because now I am able to have Ice. I noticed she has some tiny scratch lines underneath her lower left eye area but since this doll the artist originally intended to keep for himself (said so in his blog..he also said he did not carve the lip and nose area this time around due to the same reason) I am ok with these. Because it was a doll that the artist wanted to keep for himself, it only made me love her more.

A very busy sewing week

For the past few weeks, I have been sewing for my etsy shop and part of commissions. I like to keep my etsy shop updated with at least 1-2 items daily but I think this week I will have to put more focus on finishing the current commissions. I am hoping to have finish at least 1-2 commissions that I am currently working on.

Some of the packages from etsy shop and commissions are ready to be shipped. Few are just waiting for payments to clear. I must admit...I like to do the packaging as much as I like sewing for dolls~

Rest in peace..

Last Friday night, my ‘dependable’ laptop decided to died on me after seven months of working together. As usual, I was browsing the web and replying to emails when all of the sudden the screen just froze. I tried to restart the computer but instead of the normal mac start up, all I saw was a grey bluish screen with weird cracking sounds coming from the laptop.

Just the other day I was looking at the keyboard of my laptop and thinking I need to give it some cleaning...perhaps it was mad at me for not taking a good care so it decided to throw a temper? We went to the Mac store on Sunday but the salesgirl told us that we needed to make an appointment to get it fix. I felt like a mom taking her kid to the doctor at that moment. I thought appointments are for humans with their physical problems (ok, maybe sometimes mental as well) but for a laptop?

Oh well, hopefully they can get my laptop back to working mode again. Using hubby’s is nice but it’s just not my own, you know?

Cooking

When it comes to cooking...it’s a rather complicated, mixed feeling. I don’t hate it but I rather not have to do it. It takes a lot of my sewing time away and that is just for one meal alone. I spent about 1-2 hours cooking one meal and yes, by the time I finished, I am usually starving.

Before marriage, I don’t need to cook because my dearest mother does a wonderful job for me. She always nagged at me and told me I need to learn for my own good but quite honestly, I thought I wouldn’t get marry until either late 30’s or ...never. Plus if someone else is already doing a fantastic job of it, there is no motivation for me to try. So, of course I suffered the consequences after I got married. I remembered for the first month or two, hubby and I ate out all the time and most of them are fast food like burgers. Needless to say, our weights went up the scale.

I realized to avoid looking like a sumo wrestler when I have no intention of having a career path in that direction and to save money, there is no other choice but to learn to cook. This was after one year of marriage. From knowing how to cook cup o noodles to steaks, chickens and even some veggies, I am rather proud of myself. For rice, hubby usually was the one that helped me out with our rice cooker but last month I learned how to cook rice without the machine and use simple pots and gas. I followed the rice instruction on the back of the rice bag and that’s just say I almost wanted to kill whoever wrote it. Two cups of water with half of cup of rice my axx! My rice came out all gooey. I was laughed at by my younger sister when I told her because she said she doesn’t know any Asians who can’t cook rice. Well, I proved her wrong. But I succeeded after my third try and now my rice came out perfect (tears~~~).

I think I still have a lot to learn when it comes to cooking....although I still prefer to have someone cooking for me.

My other love besides dolls..

Yesterday while I was sewing, my left shoulder suddenly started to sore and hurt a lot so I had to stop and rest earlier than usual. I wanted to also update my blog but the pain was bugging me too much. Because of this, I wasn’t even able to have a good night sleep >__<~~~~

Well anyways, I wanted to share my other hobby (if it counts as one?) besides dolls. I love to read Chinese/Japanese comics. I guess part of my love for Ball Jointed Dolls is because of these comic books and the characters inside. My mom always thought I am wasting away money when I buy them because she figured once I finished reading, they are pretty much useless. She does not considered them as ‘books’ because ‘books’ to her are suppose to educate while comic books on the other hand, are junks/trash (much like gossip magazines). But who doesn’t love a good gossip right?! Hehehe..

There are several artists I love but the funniest ones I came across are by Ai Morinaga. Not only are her characters well drawn but the story lines are hilarious! I just wish she has them out faster though. There are two different series I bought from her that haven’t ended yet. One series has only 8 books and the other so far has 5. Each book takes her about one and a half year to publish. I hope I can survive long enough for her to finish both series.

A trip down to San Diego

I must say that I am amazed at how well I felt today compared to yesterday. I thought I would still be fighting with the sore throat but that was gone already. According to hubby, I wasn’t even coughing last night. I do hope I can keep going at this recovery rate. I was even able to head down to San Diego with hubby to meet a client after lunch. It was a rather boring meeting for me because the meeting was more for hubby than me. After the meeting, hubby and I went for dinner nearby. I did enjoy our little pizza dinner at Seaport Village in San Diego. We were surprised at how many people there were considering it was a Monday. I guess summer is here and that means kids are off school.

On the side note, it’s scary to know I am about to hit 30....but I guess what’s more important is not to feel like a 30 year old woman, because honestly I don’t. I think part of it has to do with my love for dolls. They are my secret for feeling young...yes, I am like Peter Pan that doesn’t want to grow up~

The head monkey is finally taking a day off..

t has been almost a month if not more since I last took almost a whole day off and just rest in bed. I think I am coming down with a bit of cold so I figured I better play it safe and rest.

I wish it was a good full rest though but that didn’t work out. I couldn’t find a comfortable position and then a cough here and there didn’t help much either. I am so used to working almost whole day that being in bed made me felt so unproductive. My sister told me that I should rest before the cold gets worse otherwise I will really have to stay in bed longer than I want to. She might be younger but perhaps the wiser one. Hopefully I will be up on my feet again soon~

The evil sore throat

Yesterday I woke up feeling my throat a bit sore....at first I thought to myself, did I snore too loud again?! That might be why my throat is hurting...but then it went on hurting for the whole day and also for the most part of today. Now that must be a snore marathon to be hurting that long! Ok, so snoring possibility is eliminated .. then does that mean I am coming down with a cold?! I hope not.

Hubby and I are indoor type of person (as in we prefer to stay home all the time instead of going out everyday for whatever reasons). We noticed we haven’t had cold or flu for a long time by doing so...just few days ago I had to go out to do some errands and also to the post office. I did notice people coughing left and right and not covering their mouths. I hope I am not getting a cold from that.
